English Study at McGill

  How come did I come to study at McGill?

  Mid-August "Blind Luck" took me to work in a USA-funded trading Corp. in Chang’ an Town. Daily work made me have a close contact with English. I was proud of my pronunciation, whereas, My listening is dissatisfying. “Pardon” was just like an obstacle, which made me become less and less confident. How to express myself and understand others clearly? Everyday, I always passed by McGill on my way to my company, but it didn’t attracted my eyes till an advertising brochure in a retail shop met with me by chance. It would be helpful for me in improving my listening English? The mind boggled. My colleague Esther and I visited McGill-chance that my dream would come true. I found it was indeed different from other training schools. The staff are warm-hearted and considerate, they could make different level class to satisfy our demand by a test. Especially I appreciated its atmosphere -”only English” in teaching and learning.

  Listening improvement surprises me! I registered at McGill and followed Richard’s course for a short period, surprisingly found my listening was better and better. Remember that the first lesson was really a hell for me. Richard-born and grew up in Canada, his accent was so pure that I couldn’t catch it. But he tried his best to speak in plain English with funny body language, meanwhile, encouraged everyone seated open the mouth. After experiencing several lessons, my ears were awoken up. I became active and tasted the happiness- sharing my mind with others. Now I have started my formal study at McGill and I become more and more confident. Believe it is no more a dream to enjoy pure Hollywood movies. The day is coming soon, isn’t it?

  Colorful activities. Teaching is full of diversity. It releases our stress from study and work to advantage in lively game. Unconsciously I get much American cut-edging slang. On holy Christmas Eve of this year, McGill gave us an incomparable silent night in my memory. “Yew “Band show, Santa Clause gifts, friendly greetings and wishes, carol in the bright candle… By such communication ways, I have a more profound understanding for western culture.

  One class, one small society! The English Lovers come from all corners of land. Their job experiences, education backgrounds, personnel networks, hobbies and personalities…are fresh for me. Though it is consist of around 15 members in one class, everyone is unique. By watching their words and deeds, you can broaden your horizon. The mind is no more limited in one company and old things. Exactly, one class is a small window to the society. It is a shortcut by learning from others'' shininess.

² Make a long study target. I will move up to Level 3 next year ,by a further study, polish and improve myself, since I know It is impossible to master a language by depending on a short training. Besides, it is necessary to do a daily reading and listening, such as “Shenzhen Daily” and CIR English. You will find the latest news and fashion trends. Above all, pay attention to use them in your life. In a word, no body can help you except yourself, never give up English study.
