考研英语复习中重要的就是不断重复巩固，学过的语言知识，包括词汇句式语法等，都需要背诵，通过阅读巩固。而做题和做题技巧只是一小步，有着扎实的语言基础，技巧只是小菜一碟。考研英语的基础语言知识功底不扎实，做再多的题，看更多的技巧只会徒增负担。
1、alternative/ltntv/
alternative作名词意为“可选择的事物，可替代的事物”，作形容词意为“可选择的，可替代的”，这个词意思比较抽象，需要多看例句，这个词在上一期的外刊精读中出现过。
His idea seemed to offer a possible alternative. 他的想法似乎提供了另一种可能的选择。
I'm afraid I have no alternative but to ask you to leave. 恐怕我别无选择，只有让你离开。
The opposition parties have so far failed to set out an alternative strategy. 反对党到目前为止还没有提出其他的策略。
2、altitude/lttjud/
altitude是名词，意为“海拔”。
We are currently flying at an altitude of 15 000 metres. 现在我们正在15 000米的高度上飞行。
At high altitudes it is difficult to get enough oxygen. 在海拔高的地方很难得到足够的氧气。
3、amateur/amt/
amateur作名词意为“业余爱好者，外行”，也可作形容词意为“业余的，外行的”。
The tournament is open to both amateurs and professionals. 这次锦标赛业余选手和职业选手均可参加。
This work was done by a bunch of amateurs! 这项工作是一伙外行干的！
At college he studied English and did amateur boxing. *时，他学习英语，同时还参加业余拳击。
4、ambassador/mbsd/
ambassador是名词，意为“大使，使节”。
She's been appointed British ambassador to the UN. 她获任命为英国驻联合国大使。
Britain's ambassador in Moscow has refused to comment. 英国驻莫斯科大使已拒绝发表评论。
5、ambiguous/mbɡjus/
ambiguous是很常见的形容词，意为“不明确的，模棱两可的”，
This agreement is very ambiguous and open to various interpretations. 这份协议非常含糊，可以有多种解释。
I suspected that he was being deliberately ambiguous. 我怀疑他是故意含糊其词。
ambition是名词，意为“志向，理想，抱负”或者“野心，雄心”。形容词为ambitious。
He has already achieved his main ambition in life - to become wealthy. 他已经实现了他人生很大的志向——发财致富。
His ambition is ultimately to run his own business. 他的抱负是能够经营自己的公司。
Even when I was young I never had any ambition. 即使是年轻时，我也从没有什么雄心壮志。
The government has announced an ambitious programme to modernize the railway network. 已经宣布了实现铁路网现代化的宏伟规划。
7、ambulance/mbjlns/
ambulance是名词，意为“救护车”。
The ambulance crew removed him from the wreckage. 救护车上的人员将他从残骸中救出来。
8、amend/mend/
amend是动词，意为“修改，修订”。
MPs were urged to amend the law to prevent another oil tanker disaster. 下院议员被敦促修订该法律，以防止油轮泄漏灾难再次发生。
The rule was amended to apply only to non-members. 规则被修改成只适用于非成员。
9、amiable /emibl/
amiable是形容词，意为“友好的，和蔼可亲的”。
I've only met Jane once but she seems amiable enough. 我只见过简一次，但她好像还算友好。
10、ample/mpl/
ample是个常见的形容词，意为“充足的，充裕的”，近义词是sufficient。
There is ample evidence that climate patterns are changing. 有足够的证据表明气候模式正在改变。
You'll have ample opportunity to ask questions after the talk. 演讲结束后你们会有足够的时间提问。
